"The hell it is", say Tim Alessi (LG Electronics USA), Bob Perry (Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company) and John Revie (Samsung Electronics USA). Here are some extracts from the main article at HD Guru:
"In 2009, we estimate that plasma will account for more than 40 percent of the 50-inch and larger screen size sales. That unit volume will probably continue for at least the next 3 ~ 4 years."
"We clearly see in the industry numbers that LCD growth, particularly in the US market, has leveled off, and it’s growth rate is slower than the growth rate of PDP. [...] We expect this trend to continue. We expect larger PDP televisions to be marketed, and we expect to see continued improvements in cost effectiveness, particularly in larger screen sizes."
"Plasma is an important part of the Flat Panel industry, representing approximately 30% of the 40”+ market and 50% of the 50”+ market. Plasma TVs provide the consumer great picture performance and value."

Plasma vs LCD comparison
Here is an in-depth article by ISF and IDC technicians about a fair comparison of the plasma and LCD technologies. It focuses on extensive testing of the commonly perceived weak spots of both technologies and shows how plasmas have clearly overcome all major flaws that plagued their first generations.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION
This blog is currently under construction and seeing just how little free time I can grant it as of now, I have no idea when it'll be actually active (if ever). Any help would be greatly appreciated and would make this blog's birth more likely.
If you think plasma is the way to go when it comes to HDTV;
if you think LCDs' brightness and pop are fools' gold as they're actually as far from reference quality as Alpha Centauri is far from Earth (with due exceptions, of course);
if you think it's a real shame Pioneer had to drop out of the HDTV market altogether due to financial losses;
if you think it's even more shameful that Vizio ditched plasma while reckoning it is actually better than LCD just because the latter looks allegedly better to the untrained eyes of unexperienced customers in stores...
... then you're what the ANTI-LCD LEAGUE is looking for! Contact me if you're interested in participating.
